The String Quartet in F# Minor is a work in four movements. The unusual key of F# Minor gives the piece a particular timbre, whilst making a refreshing change for players regularly playing in D or G.

An allegro risoluto commences the work, using strong interweaving passages of two against three. A lively scherzo or giga follows in F# major. Then comes a haunting elegy (adagio) in F# minor.  An amazing presto follows, with a brief return to the elegaic melody, before finishing with a flourish. Throughout, the piece is approachable and tuneful. It is approx. 19 mins. 30 in duration.
