The Trio for Clarinet, Oboe & Piano is an unusual combination of instruments, but one that works well in this piece and is fun to play. It is arranged as 3 movements, totalling about 12 minutes in duration. The first movement is a lively andante con moto (approx. 3:20).  The second movement is an allegretto semplice and belongs very much to the oboe (approx. 4:00), whilst the third movement is a brisk allegro (approx. 4:40).

It was first performed on 25th. March, 1988 by Mary Brunsden, clarinet, Joanna Rhind-Tutt, oboe and the composer, piano. The critic, Robert Harris, praised the work for its inventive use of the instruments in producing a very lyrical sound.
